I started a ranger/mesmer profession, which was my 3rd character, to go solely for the title of survior. After reaching 80,000 xp the screen froze and disconnected me from the server, upon logging back in I checked the progress of my survivor title and found that the disconnect counted as a death.

A disconnect won't kill you because I've d/c and not had a death count increase. If you are in battle and d/c then, well you might get a death count addition.

unfortunately that does seem to be the case, cause I was in a battle when it froze and d/c

I've been d/c'd before (not in a battle at all) and its counted as a "death" for some reason.
Had to reset my new Necro 3 times so far, and it's done it again. I don't think I'm even going to try anymore.

ah this reminds me of my old diablo 2 hardcore days.....lost several level 90+ hc deaths due to lag or d/c....a big reason why i finally quit playing it

hey at least your character isn't erased because of it!

yeah I suppose that is the bright side to the situation. still it's just kind of a shame to log in the hours it takes to reach a title, I personally haven't seen that much of, and lose it to a d/c. Well I imagine this does happen more than any of us would like, so I guess I will just have to try again.

ummm to gain post counts or to rant about how the game screwed someone's chance at a survivor title and had to restart his/her character over which meant his/her time was wasted

because a lagged disconnect can make you die to some mob without you being able to prevent it in any manner?

see, I really wouldn't have had a problem with the situation if I would have been in a battle where I was outmatched,(that I could have dealt with) however I was level 14 with a full party of 6 plus pet, against 5-6 blighted skales in the LA area, geez I could have fallen asleep and my henchies could have pulled that battle off. lol

Depending on your "freeze" time and the type of freeze, it could be that your screen displayed you waltzing through a field filled with flowers and dead enemies, while you were actually getting crushed by 15 mobs that the henchies decided to aggro. Anyways, don't be too disheartened by loosing your survivor title. The title naturally implies that you're going to have to start over quite a few times to nail it.
